Stuffie day and smooth reading

September 28, 2018

We had our “Paw”sitive celebration today and brought stuffed animals to be our learning partners.

We have been working on developing good reading habits. Our latest habit is that readers reread to smooth out their voices. So, we made smoothies to help us remember.

Four Winds

Developing good reading habits

September 19,2018

Today we practiced making a stack of books - easiest on top and hardest on the bottom. We also began using our reader mats this week. We are building good habits to become readers.

We also earned another celebration and a big pawsitive paw print.

Reading partners

September 17 & 18, 2018

We began reading with a partner this past week. We learned how to use our cool new partner reading rug. I just love the joy of reading that is developing.

Technology and popsicles

9/14/18

This afternoon, we used iPads to listen to audio books. We also had some free time to play Lightbot, Doodle Buddy and GarageBand.

Then, we were inspired by our math tools and enjoyed a popsicle with Mrs. Scrodin’s class.

We are readers!

9/13/18

This week, we have been practicing what it looks like and sounds like to be a reader. We also discussed the many reasons that readers read.

Oh, we also made eyeball pointers to help us keep track of our words.

Here are some of us hard at work...

A Bad Case of Stripes

9/12/18

Today we read the book A Bad Case of Stripes. We learned that many books can teach us a lesson and decided the lesson from this book was "to be yourself".

Then we used watercolors to make ourselves with a case of stripes.  They will be displayed in the hallway soon.

Twin pops and celebration

9/10/18

Today we began our regular Bridges math unit. Our first task was to make twin pops to practice counting by 2’s.

We also filled our PAWsitive coin collection and voted to have an extra recess on the Kindergarten playground.

Making robots

September 7, 2018

We had a great day in first grade! This afternoon we had team time and all first graders designed and built a robot from a styrofoam cup, a pipe cleaner, construction paper, tape, a straw and 2 popsicle sticks.

What fun and creative ideas they had!
