Light and Lake day

March 20, 2018

Today we got to explore light boxes. We looked into a cube without light and discovered it looked “dark” or “pitch black”. When we used the light from a flashlight, we could see a surprise sticker inside.

March 21, 2018

We went to the fifth and sixth grade lake day. We learned a lot about bees, invasive species in Lake Champlain, apple orchards and more.

Shirt twins!

Refraction experiment - we used a transparent cup of water and a picture of an arrow. When the water is poured into the cup, it appears that the arrowhead reversed direction.

Basketball

March 16, 2018

We ended our day by watching the staff vs. students basketball game. We cheered for both teams. The staff was victorious!

Four Winds -Owls

We had a great Four Winds today and learned a lot about owls. We explored owl wings and feet and then got to dissect an owl pellet. We also listened to different owl calls.

Those Tricky Leprechauns

March 16, 2018

We celebrated St. Patrick’s day today! We had a potato themed day.

When we got to school we found a mess in our classroom! The tricky leprechauns must have visited. They left us some gold coins and shamrock necklaces.

We played hot potato, voted for our favorite way to eat a potato, graphed the data and ate some potato chips. This was all inspired by the book Jamie O’Rourke and the Big Potato.

Leprechaun traps

Our homework this week was to create a leprechaun trap at home and bring it in to share. We had so many great and very creative traps!

Judging fairly and more light

March 7, 2018

Today we began our writing unit about writing reviews. Our first bend is about learning how to judge fairly. We used our collections to choose a Best in show. Then we began writing our reviews, giving reasons why we chose our favorite.

This afternoon we continued our Mystery Science and made translucent stained glass window flowers. They look great in our windows.
